Description

American Eaglehead Infantry Officer's Saber C. 1815. 32", 1 3/8" wide, curved blade. Blade decorated for half its length with gilt highlighted engraved motifs including floral/scrollwork, primitive American eagle with riband and motto above, and liberty cap on pole below, on obverse. Also marked Warranted at base of blade. Reverse with floral/scrollwork and arms panoplies. The blade retains 40% of the original fire blue and gilt, the balance a smooth gray patina with absolutely no rust or pitting and just one tiny negligible nick.. Plain reverse P guard with elongated quillon and very small shield shaped langets. Fine quality crested head. Ring for attaching the sword knot affixed where the guard enters the pommel. Finely carved/checkered one piece ivory grip perfect, with nice mellow patina. A decorative 3/8" brass ferrule at the base. The hilt retains traces of the original silver wash with about 50% remaining in the recessed areas of the head. A very attractive sword.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
