Description

America Indian Princess Pommel Officers' Sword With Pearl Grips.

31 1/2-inch straight blade with a single short fuller on each side extending to within 14 1/2-inches of the tip. Obverse side etched with a gilded panoply of arms and modest foliate scroll in a blued panel; reverse side with the same basic decoration. Obverse ricasso maker marked with a "W.". Gilded-brass hilt with a clamshell guard with raised floral and geometric decoration. Two-piece pearl grip panels with twisted wire wrapping. Knuckle bow decorated with oak leaves and acorn designs. Impressive Indian princess pommel. Brass scabbard with mounting rings. The scabbard has engraved decorated on the obverse side.

Condition: Very good. Blade with a gray patina and light surface rust; the engraved panels retain about 60% of the gilt and bluing. Hilt retains traces of the gilt. Scabbard with a dark patina and bearing a few light to moderate dents. From the Collection of Dr. Phillip R. Rutherford
