18th Century Persian Scimitar.

Approximately 31-inch curved blade of typical Persian style. Inscribed in Farsi, translation reads; First word "Work", Second in "Year" and Third is "1211". The inscription states, Made in 1211 [Islamic Hijri Lunar Calendar], sword is approximately 233 years old. Originally a Damascus blade, with traces being observed near ricasso and in certain areas throughout. Horn handle with decorated floral burst rivets and engraved spine. Brass guard. Sheath with brass mounts.

Condition: Very good for its age. Moderate handling wear. Blade cleaned at some point; some nicks to edge. Sheath with moderate wear, scuffs and handling marks. Sheath and blade's fit is extremely tight. The Estate of the Late Hiroshi Harada of Piedmont, California.
