Description

17th Century Swept Hilt Rapier.

Sword measuring approximately 48 inches overall, with a 39-inch double-edged blade of flattened diamond section. No armorer's mark is present. The blade, 7/8-inch at its widest point, is finely balanced though the maker remains unknown. While unembellished, the workmanship reflects a straightforward and honest execution of form. The grip, about 3 1/2-inches in length, wrapped in alternating bands of tightly wound and spaced wire and complemented by a sturdy knuckle bow. The iron hilt is fitted with a curving quillon and branch, centered by a modestly adorned quillon block. Completing the piece is an ovoid pommel with button in plain design, offering understated distinction. Weight is approximately 2 lbs.

Condition: Good to very good with age wear. Showing an overall mottled gray patina on blade and hilt. Fine scratches present to metal. Crude metal and some pitting inside hilt. Some slight bents towards the point of the blade.
