Description

Pierre Choteau Missouri War Axe, c. 1790. The 7" forged iron head has a 3-3/4" cutting edge which is decorated along all edges with punched dot stars and Choteau's, a well known Indian trader from St. Louis, raised maker's mark "P.&C." centered on one side. The wood haft measures 24". Several examples of Choteau's work are displayed in state historical venues. This rare and historic axe is in excellent condition with only minimal handling wear.
