Description

Missouri War Axe, c. 1850. This large forged iron head measures 8-1/2" with a 4-1/2" cutting edge. The blade is marked with a weeping heart cut-out. The haft's grip is covered with trade cloth and has an added drop of rawhide fringe. These are held in place with brass tacks which also circle the haft in three more areas. The haft was originally painted black but most of that has since worn away. In very good condition with moderate wear from age and use. The Michael Ward Collection of Western Americana
