19th Century Surgical and Amputation Set by Rees.

A very nice and complete set of surgical and amputation instruments by William Z. Rees of Cincinnati, Ohio. Set comprises of tools such as; Bone saws, trephine saw, tourniquet and surgical knives. Most tools appear to be marked REES. One extra compartment present and fitted in red-velour lined partitions. This is a Civil War era civilian set [non-military]. Contained in wooden case that measures 16 1/2 by 7-inches. Case is bordered by brass furniture.

William Z. Rees was a surgical and dental instrument maker based in Cincinnati, Ohio, active from around 1832 to 1900. He became well-known for crafting high-quality medical instruments during the 19th century, including during the Civil War. His firm produced surgical tools for both military and civilian use, with some of his instruments being part of medical sets used in the Union Army.

Condition: Fine to excellent for this model. Appears to have very little use and wear. The largest blade has a split on the handle, all others appear fine. Inside of case with wear and scuffs as expected.
