The obverse of the blade is flat for 1" at which point the bevel to the cutting edge begins. Die stamped in the center of the obverse of the blade "Dittmar / Heilbronn". Blade in superb condition, bright and clean with just a few minor small scattered areas of salt and peppering. The blade is fitted with a green wool washer. 3 5/8" iron cross guard with scalloped ends and grooved decoration in the center. There is a 3/4" tapered iron ferrule at the base of the grip. Very large fluted mushroom shaped pommel, perfect, with dark smooth untouched patina. There is a 1/2" ball shaped capstan. There is no scabbard. A most impressive knife in very desirable condition and a form and size that certainly would have fitted the needs of a knife bearing Confederate.
