A Silver Mounted American Knife and Sheath.

Overall length of knife out of scabbard is 10 7/8-inches; with scabbard 11 1/2-inches.
See The Bowie Knife, Unsheathing an American Legend by Norm Flayderman for this exact knife; pages 27. Photo caption reads: SILVER-MOUNTED AMERICAN KNIFE AND SHEATH CIRCA 1790-1819. "7-inch tapered single edge blade with delicate fluting up to point where it merges into a 3-inch false edge. Fine quality silver crossguard and mounts. two-piece horn grips decoratively studded in circular designs; large oval, silver inlay in center, on both sides. Tang of blade possibly fastened by pin through the bottom of the pommel cap. Matching silver sheath displaying the quality of a professional silversmith; narrow silver belt loop and two silver carry rings for chain suspension from belt. Family legend traces its history to ancestor Samuel McKenney, an Indian trader from St. Louis."

Condition: Very good overall. Blade shows a mottled patina overall. The handle has received a little more stress wear than when photographed for the book, but retains all features. Guard is a little loose. Scabbard with fine markings, some bumps and bruising and tarnish. Collection of a Southern Gentleman.
