"Fat" Handled Folding Bowie by S.C. Wragg
Circa 1840s-1850s. 6-3/4"?closed folding bowie knife with "picklock" locking mechanism, heavy 1/4"?thick clip point blade with wide swedge, marked SAMUEL?C. WRAGG FURNACE HILL SHE[ffield]. 1-3/4"?wide handle, stag scales with nickel silver foliate bolster and eagle pommel. Shield is missing, spring has been repaired with a brazed extension, and the handle pins are replacements. Three small chips from handle scales. Very good. A very rare type of folding bowie, one of perhaps three of this general style known to exist.
