Description

Victorian Dagger, Main Gauche Style.

Approximately 12 3/4-inches overall with a 7 1/4-inch quadrilateral blade. Steel guard of stacked ovals in a gothic style, DL in script to one side in the center. Faceted steel pommel. Oval serrated checkered thumbrest. Note: In general, similar designs were sometimes called parrying knives, they were designed for use in conjunction with rapiers in duels, they were intended to deflect thrusts from an opponent's rapier. Although this might be more decorative, it has an interesting look and design.

Condition: Good as configured and for its age. Scattered gray patina overall with staining, areas of fine surface spots and pitting. Possibly cleaned at some point. Handle good with spots, dark patina overall.
