Description
Middle Eastern Khanjar with Massive Rock Crystal Handle.Approximately 10 1/2-inch tempered steel blade with design to spine near handle also flushed with some gold tone. Massive Rock Crystal handle with gold mounting. Purple velvet wrapped scabbard also with gold color mounts. Also, with gold color lanyard attachment. Overall length of the knife is 14 1/2-inches. A seldom seen dagger with a rock crystal handle mount.
Note: This item is lot number 3507 on the Invoice from International Studio Art Division, The Hearst Corp. of which a photocopy is included in the sale. According to consignor and paperwork provided, this item was obtained by Shirley Temple Black from the Hearst warehouse in 1963 to complement her decorating and collecting habits. In the form, the item states, "Dagger, India, XVIII Century, Rock Crystal Hilt, Gilt Mounting, Velvet Scabbard, Gold Mounting L.14 1/2".

Condition: Very good for its age. Blade very sharp with light patches of pitting. Gold tone mounts with nicks and mars. Rock crystal with some internal cracks and one or two superficial ones near mount [typically encountered with these type of handles]. Gold color mounts on scabbard very good with fine scratches and a few dents from storage and/or handling. Some separations and one tear 1/2-inch tear to velvet. Shrinkage from scabbard prevents blade from entering completely. Please note, gold was tested and all gold on dagger appears to be gold tone color.
