Description

Japanese Tanto Attributed to Kanesaki. 7 ½-inch bright blade, 11 ½-inches overall. Signed on the tang. One hole in the tang. Cloth-wrapped handle over shark or ray skin. Lacquered wooden saya decorated with leaf designs and with an inset brass escutcheon. Retains a small kozuka. The consignor attributes this dagger to the work of Kanesaki, but that has not been verified.

Condition: Very good. The blade is bright and only shows modest signs of storage. The saya displays scattered scuffing.
