Cased Arnold Griebel Engraved Smith & Wesson Model K22 Double Action Revolver with Handwritten Letter from the Engraver.

Serial no. K66701 [base of barrel and butt under grip], .22 long rifle caliber, 6-inch barrel with fixed front sight and micrometer adjust rear sight. Blued finish. Case-hardened hammer and trigger. Elaborately scroll and floral engraved throughout, with game scene to each side of the frame. Floral carved walnut grip panels with inlaid S&W and spade medallions. Contained in wooden display case with green felt lining. Also included is a SAFETY INSPECTION CERTIFICATE, registered to Mr. Gordon Kibby and the serialized firearm. Sold along with handwritten letter from Mr. Griebel himself, dated October 9, 1966. On his personal letter head reading: PHONE PALISADE 5-5333 - 4724 N. KEYSTONE AVENUE / A. GREIBEL / ARTISTIC ENGRAVING ON FINE GUNS / CHICAGO 60630.

Letter reads: Mr. Gordon Libby... Grand Rapids, Mich... Dear Mr. Kibby: I have your letter from Oct. 5th the photos also. I did not have to look long to recognize that I did the work on your S&W K66701 but it must be a few years longer than 4-5 years back because I did not sign the work. Now they ask for it. Thank you for your compliment. I enclose a few pictures for you to keep that is work I did recently. Thank you for your photos I like to keep these... Very truly yours... A. Briebel.

Arnold Griebel (1890-1970) was a renowned German-American master firearms engraver and die engraver active primarily in the mid-20th century. Widely considered one of the most talented engravers of his era, his work is highly sought after by collectors for its intricate detail and artistry.

Condition: Very good to excellent. Overall showing very light handling wear and very fine spots of pitting. Crisp action Mirror bright bore.
