James Buchanan: Military Appointment Signed as President. One partially printed page, 10 1/4" x 16 1/4", Washington, D.C.; March 1, 1861. The President appoints Taulmin Poe Second Lieutenant in the Eighth Regiment, Fourth Brigade. Blind stamp at the lower left. Buchanan's signature is bold and dark. Secretary of War Joseph Holt's signature is equally as nice. As a note, this appointment was signed only four days before Abraham Lincoln assumed the presidency. Comes with a PSA LOA.

Condition: Typical fold, slight toning. Overall fine.
