Description

Theodore Roosevelt: Limited First Edition, Signed as President, of Outdoor Pastimes of an American Hunter. Illustrated. (New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1905). First edition, limited to 260 numbered copies, each signed in full by the author (while President of the United States). Octavo (9.75" x 6.5"). xi, 369 pages. Complete with forty-nine full-page photographic plates, each with a captioned tissue guard. Publisher's original binding of half-leather over boards, lettered in blind on the spine. Hinges cracking but still very strong and sound, and typical light foxing and browning, and very minor soiling. Altogether, a very good to near fine copy of a scarce book. Housed in a custom quarter morocco book-backed slipcase with five raised bands and gilt lettering and tooling on the spine. Published while Roosevelt was President, this book contains accounts of his hunting trips in the West, his impressions of and experiences in Yellowstone Park, and a chapter on books about big game hunting. Because such a small number of this limited edition was issued, and even fewer were signed by Roosevelt as President, this offering is particularly desirable.
