Description

Signed First Edition of Stephen King's Classic

Stephen King. The Shining. Garden City, New York: Doubleday & Company, Inc., 1977.

First edition with "R49" in the gutter on page 447. Inscribed and signed by King on the half-title page. Octavo. 447 pages.

Publisher's black buckram over mustard paper boards. Cloth rubbed at spine ends, with very minor fraying at joint folds. Gilt lettering on spine a bit dulled. Small spot to fore-edge; bottom edge a bit grubby. A couple of very tiny chips to the beautifully preserved dust jacket. A near fine copy.

Doubleday was known for generally poor book construction and use of inferior materials at this time, but this copy has been well cared-for and has held up beautifully. An important novel by America's horror master, this tale served as the basis for Stanley Kubrick's wildly popular film by the same name.
