Description
Stephen King. Skeleton Crew. Santa Cruz: Scream/Press, 1985.First edition. One of perhaps 16 zippered copies lettered, numbered, and signed in silver ink by the author and illustrator on a special limitation page bound in back. Quarto. 545 pages. Illustrated by J. K. Potter. Fold out color poster laid-in.
Integrally bound in a black leather zippered case with silver titles on the spine and an illustration of a hard-hat wearing skull in blind on the front cover. Moire silk endpapers. All edges silver. One small bump to the foot of the spine. Two small indentions on the silver of the fore-edge. Unique and possibly the scarcest King lettered editions. Fine condition.
"Dealers are convinced a second state exists, since after a very long lull the publisher was suddenly able to just barely fill all the shorted orders. The publisher denies this, and, so far, no one we have talked to who is convinced such a state exists has been able to tell the difference. If it exists, it is nearly identical and a very, very small run. One evidence of this is that, in 1986, Connor contacted some major OP book dealers offering a "special edition" of Skeleton Crew in a leather zippered case. We believe 16 were so done and eventually sold at $150 each, although they appear to be from leftover sheets of the second run and neither of the two reported to us was signed by King or Potter."
