Description
Ronald Reagan Signed Secret Service Itinerary Booklet for His 1983 Trip to Los Angeles and San Francisco to Personally Welcome Queen Elizabeth II on her First Visit to California. Bound between peach-colored card stock with one heavy duty staple in the upper left corner, this deceptively simple booklet measures 4.25" x 6" and comes housed in a sturdy custom maroon-clothed slipcase with gilt spine titling. Dated March 3-5, 1983, this fascinating itinerary maps out President Reagan's March, 1983 West Coast trip to meet Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. The booklet is chock full of schedules, stage directions, and more; and it is profusely illustrated with diagrams of sites visited by Reagan, important travel routes, and seating charts for those lucky enough to catch a ride on Air Force One. Interestingly, a handwritten note on the inside back cover, as well as a welcome card reading "Mrs. Hatfield Welcome Aboard Air Force One" both identify this pamphlet as belonging to Antoinette Hatfield, wife of long-time Oregon senator and governor Mark Hatfield. The booklet and welcome card were given to Mrs. Hatfield when she accompanied her husband on two Air Force One flights, one from San Francisco to Klamath Falls, Oregon, and then from Klamath Falls to Andrews Air Force Base near Washington, D.C. All of these details and much, much more can be found within this wonderful little booklet. At Senator Hatfield's request, President Reagan signed his name in full on the front cover of this booklet on March 5, 1983, while flying on Air Force One to Andrews. The booklet is in excellent condition, with very little wear present. Copies of Secret Service presidential itineraries are extremely rare, especially signed and with a direct association to another political figure. Don't miss the chance to acquire a rare inside look at Secret Service protocol during presidential travel signed by the Gipper himself.View all of [The Chris Kortlander Collection ]
