First edition, seventh printing. Inscribed by Steinbeck on the front free endpaper, to Mary L. Greene. Octavo. 316 pages.

Publisher's tan cloth with blue stamping. Top edge stained blue. Cloth is rubbed on the lower front corner and the spine is slightly leaning. Below the publisher's information on the title page is a small indentation in the paper. Bookplate and previous owner's gift inscription to endpapers. Overall, a remarkably clean and sharp copy in better than very good condition.

One of Steinbeck's great "California novels" about a group of Hispanic locals living near Monterey in an area known as Tortilla Flat. This work was his first critical success, winning the California Commonwealth Club's Gold medal and was adapted into an excellent film version in 1942, starring Spencer Tracy and John Garfield.
