Description

A Beautiful Copy of One of the Rarest Jules Verne First English Editions

Jules Verne. The Green Ray. Translated from the French by Mary de Hauteville. London: Sampson Low, Marston, Searle, & Rivington, 1883. First English edition. Octavo. viii, 312, 32 [ads dated September, 1883] pages. Wood-engraved frontispiece and 43 full-page engravings inserted throughout. Publisher's olive cloth decoratively tooled in gilt and reddish-brown. Floral-patterned endpapers. Minor dust-soiling to cloth. Light wear to edges and corners. Bookplate to front pastedown. Hinges strengthened. Near fine. This title is among the most difficult Verne first editions to find in collectible condition. This copy is in unusually great condition; it is not likely to be seen in this condition again for many years. A cornerstone for any Verne collection.
