"Cosmos" Complete in Seventeen Issues
John W. Campbell, Jr., Otis Adelbert Flagg, Lloyd Arthur Eshbach, Edmond Hamilton, A. Merritt, Edward E. Smith, et al. Rare "Cosmos" Serial 17 Issues Complete. Jamaica [New York]: Science Fiction Digest Company, [1934]. 5.5" x 7.75". Pamphlet format. Staple holes present in all issues but no staples are present. All issues have some toning; some issues have lightly bent corners and edge wear but overall the condition is near fine.This extremely scarce set of science-fiction serials is presented here in its complete, original form. All seventeen issues, as well as the introductory pamphlet and loose card, are included. Collectors have long considered this a set that is incredibly difficult to assemble. Published by the legendary sci-fi fanzine that began life as The Time Traveller and later published under the names Fantasy Magazine and Science Fiction Digest, "Cosmos" is a round-robin serial, with each installment written by a different writer. The first installment came out in July 1933; the serial wrapped up in November 1934. Installments were written by the leading science fiction writers of the time. The lineup was as follows: Ralph Milne Farley, David H. Keller, Arthur J. Burks, Bob Olsen, Francis Flagg, John W. Campbell Jr., Rae Winters, Otis Adelbert Kline, E. Hoffman Price, Abner J. Gelula, Raymond A. Palmer, A. Merritt, J. Harvey Haggard, Edward E. Smith, P. Schuyler Miller, L. A. Eshbach, Eando Binder and Edmond Hamilton. The introductory pamphlet has a two-color woodblock print illustration by Hannes Bok, one of the legendary artist's earliest known published works. Each installment is about 16 pages. A rare and marvelous treasure of early science fiction.
