Description
H.G. Wells. The First Men in the Moon. Indianapolis: The Bowen-Merrill Company, [1901]. First edition, preceding the Newnes London edition by one month. Octavo. 312 pages. Frontispiece and many pictures by E. Hering. Publisher's original blue cloth, front board and spine lettered in gilt with gilt pictorial decoration, title blindstamped on rear board; somewhat scuffed and stained, corners bumped and rubbed, head and tail of spine pushed and torn, joints with a few tears and losses. Cream colored endpapers, all edges trimmed; with ink ownership to front free endpaper recto, front and back hinges starting, text block loose. Internally generally clean, text block minorly but attractively toned. Good. Currey, p. 518. All proceeds to benefit educational programs at The Bryan Museum.Auction Info
