Octavo. x, 219, [1, blank], [1, note-leaf], [1, colophon], [1, ad for The Time Machine], [1, blank] pages. With inserted frontispiece at front. Original publisher's full green cloth, covers ruled in blind, spine stamped and lettered in gilt (a variant binding, without the publisher's catalogue inserted at rear, not mentioned in Hammond). Some minor rubbing and very minor soiling to binding, some minor foxing in text. With the bookplate of Richard Manney and the armorial bookplate arms of Payne, as well as a small bookseller's ticket on the front pastedown. Overall, a fine copy. Housed in custom-built cloth chemise and full dark green morocco, gilt, slipcase. Hammond B3. Currey p. 520. From the John McLaughlin/Book Sail Collection.
