Description
George R.R. Martin. A Game of Thrones. New York: Bantam Books, [1996]. First American edition. Signed by the author on the title page. Octavo. [6], 694, [1, acknowledgements] pages. Publisher's black paper over boards with black cloth backstrip, author's facsimile signature blind stamped to the upper board, spine stamped in silver, endpapers depicting a map of Westeros; original pictorial dust jacket.Though the official publication date of the HarperCollins/Voyager (1996) edition was technically earlier, Bantam went to print several months early in order to distribute copies at the American Bookseller's Association. On his website FAQ, Martin notes that he considers the Bantam edition to be the true first but that the print run was also significantly larger than the UK first edition.
Condition: Minor edgewear, corners a touch bumped, indentation at upper joint, faint soiling to bottom edge of text block. Internally clean and tight. Dust jacket unclipped ($21.95); light rubbed, flaps somewhat toned, the faintest of foxing to tail. Housed in a custom gray cloth slipcase decorated in blue and gold, with the wolf of House Stark to the front and spine. A near fine book and jacket.
