Octavo. Publisher's red cloth stamped in black. Complete with four inserted plates, including frontispiece, by J. Allen St. John. Illustrated map by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Facsimile dust jacket.

FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY. INSCRIBED AND SIGNED on the front free endpaper by the author to his son on the day of publication: "Jack Burroughs, with love from Papa, Tarzana Ranch, Sept 5, 1923." Also signed in pencil and with an original sketch in pencil by John Coleman Burroughs on the front pastedown, captioned: "Burroughs John has read this book twice once on October 23, 1925. I am in military school. I am a first Sergeant. What a mess [signed] John Burroughs [sketch of a uniformed officer with a pistol]."

Condition: Spine sunned, spine ends pushed and a bit frayed, joints rubbed, other edgewear. Textblock over-opened in a few places and some hinges cracked, spine slightly leaned.

Accompanied by a letter of authenticity signed by Linda Burroughs, wife of Danton Burroughs, who was the son of John Coleman (Jack) Burroughs, and grandson of Edgar Rice Burroughs.
