First Editions of C. S. Lewis' Ransom Trilogy
C. S. Lewis. The Ransom Trilogy, including: Out of the
Silent Planet; Perelandra; That Hideous Strength. London:
John Lane The Bodley Head, [1938, 1943, 1945]. First editions.
Together, three octavo volumes. [xii], 264, [4, ads]; 256; [476]
pages. Each volume in publisher's original cloth binding and dust
jacket except for Perelandra, which is in a facsimile jacket
(Out of the Silent Planet is in Currey's "A" binding of
brick red cloth and gilt lettering on spine). Some general rubbing
and wear to jackets, Out of the Silent Planet's jacket is
chipped at headcap with two closed tears, and has several vertical
creases, and That Hideous Strength's jacket is chipped at
the headcap. General rubbing and mild wear to bindings, some foxing
to edge of text block. Out of the Silent Planet is skewed. Overall,
a very good copy of this important series in jacket. Out of the
Silent Planet is housed in a clamshell box.
More Information:
The books comprising the space trilogy that Lewis referred to as an adult's fairy tale are rare enough to find individually but to find all three together in dust jackets must be considered a singular opportunity.
