Description

Anthony Burgess. A Clockwork Orange. London: Heinemann, [1962].

8vo. Publisher's printed paper wrappers.

UNCORRECTED PROOF OF THE FIRST EDITION.

Often credited as one of the most influential novels of the 20th century, A Clockwork Orange tells the story of Alex, whose ultra-violent actions result in government mandated conditioning. The omission of the final chapter in the US edition, and subsequently the 1971 Stanley Kubrick film of the same title, radically changed the meaning of the story.

Condition: Wrappers sunned; circular stain to front wrapper; touch of wear to spine head; small ink notation to upper corner of front wrapper.

References: Barron, Anatomy of Wonder (2004), II-190; Pringle, The Ultimate Guide to Science Fiction (1995), p. 70.

Provenance: From the collection of David Aronovitz.
