FIRST EDITION of the author's first book. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR TO DAVID ARONOVITZ on the title page: "For David: this copy of The Demolished Man, the first novel to win the Hugo award... Alfred Bester / and which I now use as a doorstop... AB."

Written closely with Horace Gold, then editor of Galaxy magazine, The Demolished Man became the first novel to win The Hugo Award. A genre mashup of science fiction and murder mystery that asks the question: how does one get away with murder when all the detectives are telepaths?

Condition: Dust jacket unclipped (priced "$3.00"); creasing to top edge with some light chips and tears; small hole in rear panel near fold; slight wear to panels.
