Bible in English. The Holy Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments, with the Apocryphal Books, in the Earliest English Versions made from the Latin Vulgate by John Wycliffe and his Followers. Oxford: University Press, 1850.

4 volumes, large 4to. Errata leaf at end of Vol. IV. Contemporary full dark brown morocco over wooden boards, gilt-lettered on spines, board edges and turn-ins gilt, edges gilt.

FIRST COMPLETE EDITION of the earlier and later Wycliffe versions, which are printed here in parallel columns. Edited by J. Forshall and Sir F. Madden.

Condition: Spine bands and joints rubbed; covers well-rubbed with a little white discoloration, but bindings strong. Some soft creasing to titles; occasional mostly marginal spotting (heaviest at end of Vol. I), but generally quite clean internally.

Provenance: Possibly from the Dawson/Dartrey family, County Monaghan, Ireland (armorial bookplate in each volume with motto "toujours propice"); purchased from A. Burton-Garbett, London, 30 September 1962 (with paperwork noting the books were sourced in Ireland). From the William A. Strutz Library.
