[Joseph Smith, Translator]. The Book of Mormon: An Account Written by the Hand of Mormon Upon Plates Taken from the Plates of Nephi. Liverpool: J. Tompkins for Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball and Parley P. Pratt, 1841. First European, from the Second American Edition (the first edition printed outside of the United States, and the fourth overall; it is also the first to include an Index). Eighteenmo. Approximately 5.5 x 3.5 inches. [iv], 634, 637 [sic] - 643, [1, blank] pages. Bound in contemporary full brown straight-grain calf, boards decoratively ruled in dark brown, spine elaborately tooled and lettered in gilt in compartments, marbled edges and endleaves. Binding somewhat worn and soiled, joints cracking, gilt on spine quite dull, hinges reinforced with cloth tape, some occasional light soiling or creasing to text, first three leaves a bit loose.
