Psalmes... Cambridge: Thomas Buck and Roger Daniel,
1638. The King James revised version. Each work with engraved
title-page and initials, text in double-columns, with engraved
head-and tail-pieces, all text pages ruled in red. Folio.
Approximately 16 x 10.5 inches. [101], [xii], 642, [152,
Apocrypha], [ii], 202, [6, sic], [100] pages. Bound to style
in twentieth-century light brown morocco backstrip over beveled
wooden boards, black gilt morocco lettering labels, seven raised
bands. With contemporary gauffered gilt edges on text. Rivet holes
on boards indicate that there were clasps or ornaments attached at
one time. Occasional faint dampstaining to top margin of text,
first few leaves with minor chipping to upper margin near gutter,
very minor occasional staining in text, page 235 in the Holy
Bible with a small tear at lower margin and with a chip to page
542 at top edge, neither affecting text. Pages 114 and 155 in the
New Testament have repaired tears or chips at upper edge
(affected text still mainly readable). A beautiful book, which is
remarkably clean.
