[Photography]. [John Thomson]. Street Incidents. London: Sampson Low, Marston, Searle, & Rivington, 1881. First edition, first printing. Quarto. 100 pages with 21 woodburytypes. Publisher's full green cloth with titles and decorative stamping in gilt and black to front board. Rear board stamped in blind. Minor wear and abrading to extremities of boards with light chipping to spine ends. Splitting to cloth on spine and rear joint. Former theological library copy with stamping to front and rear preliminary pages, and bookplate to front pastedown, as evidence. Hinges cracked with front free endpaper detached and chipped along fore-edge. Binding cracked. Some toning and lightly scattered foxing to pages, affecting margins of some plates, most noticeably Plate 1. Overall, a very good copy of this important photographic work chronicling London street life.Auction Info
