[Aristotle]. Thomas Taylor. The Metaphysics of Aristotle, Translated from the Greek; with Copious Notes... London: Printed for the Author, 1801. First English edition.

Quarto. [4], [lvi], 467, [1, Errata] pages. Publisher's cloth backstrip over plain boards. Rebacked, preserving most of the spine and printed paper spine label. Spine label chipped and browned, boards worn and soiled, hinges reinforced with paper, endleaves foxed, previous owner's gift inscription on half-title, front free endpaper with damage due to sticker (or seal?) removal, rear free endpaper reinforced with paper in upper corner, some foxing in text, some ink and pencil markings in text throughout. Overall, a good copy. Taylor (1758-1835) was a well-known classical scholar, and his landmark translation of the Complete Works of Plato (1804) is considered one of the finest classical texts of the nineteenth-century.
