Original Painting of Alternate Dust Jacket Design, Signed by Garth Williams
Garth Williams. Original painting for an unused dust jacket design, Charlotte's Web.Garth Williams. Original preliminary drawing and finished painting for an unused dust jacket design for Charlotte's Web, 1952: a pleased Wilbur is awarded a medal at the fair. Two sheets. The preliminary sketch is in pencil, and the sheet measures 11 x 8.5 inches; with titles and spine design, enclosed in a border. Initialed by Williams at lower right. Shallow paper clip indentation at top left corner, outside the image area. The finished version of the sketch is in ink and watercolor/gouache, and the sheet measures 8.25 x 11.875 inches; with titles and spine design. Sheet has been creased by the artist to fit the dimensions of the to-be-published book. Signed in full (in ink) by Williams along right side. Both fine. From the Estate of Garth Williams.
