Description
Garth Williams. Illustration #35, Charlotte's Web.Garth Williams. Original preliminary drawings for illustration #35 (appearing on page 135) of Charlotte's Web, 1952: Charlotte and Uncle have a conversation. Pencil on paper. Two sheets measuring 10.875 x 8.5 inches. The earlier drawing, with several studies of Charlotte, is initialed by Williams at lower center; the later, more detailed drawing is signed in full by Williams at top right. The earlier study is in fine condition. The later signed drawing was at one point matted, resulting in toning to the image area; there are also a couple of chips to the edges, two shallow bends running across the image area, and a strip of masking tape along the top edge of the reverse of the sheet. This drawing in overall very good condition. From the Estate of Garth Williams.
