Garth Williams. Illustration #1, Charlotte's Web.Garth Williams. Original preliminary drawings and studies for illustration #1 (appearing on page 2) of Charlotte's Web, 1952: Fern takes hold of the ax and tries to pull it from her father's hand. Pencil on paper. Thirteen sheets, with all but one measuring 10.875 x 8.5 inches; one is one-third of a sheet, torn to show only Fern. One sheet has drawings on both sides. All sheets initialed by Williams. All fine.
