Contemporary brown pebbled cloth with blind-ruled spine and gilt titles. text. Rubbing to extremities with minor fading along spine. Bookplates on front pastedown and endpaper. First three leaves detached. Pages toned. A good copy.

Thomassy, a French geologist, sent memoirs to the Society of Muslim-Christian relations in North Africa. "Thomassy curiously combined sympathy for both Islam and French imperial aspirations. He hoped for civilian French emigration behind a military safety cordon so that France could carry out its 'civilizing ascendancy of Muslim races.'"
