Description

John Wesley Wilbarger. Indian Depredations in Texas. Reliable Accounts of Battles, Wars, Adventures, Forays, Murders, Massacres, etc., etc. Together With Biographical Sketches of Many of the Most Noted Indian Fighters and Frontiersman of Texas. Austin: Hutchings Printing House, 1890. Second edition. 8vo. xii, 672pp. 37 woodcuts. Contemporary leather binding. Loss to the upper and lower portion of the spine panel; title labels largely perished. The front and rear hinges are cracked. Despite the exterior condition, the contents are remarkably sound and remain relatively bright and without damage. Thus, internally very good and a perfect candidate for restoration.

"It tells of nearly all the Indian fights and battles in Texas, with sketches of many of the most noted Texan Indian fighters and frontiersmen" (Raines, Bibliography of Texas). The illustrations in this book, attributed to T. J. Owen, are believed to have been the work of William Sydney Porter, better known as "O. Henry".
