Description
Frank Lloyd Wright: 30 Plates in One Portfolio of the 1910 Ausgefürte Bauten und Entwürge von Frank Lloyd Wright [Studies and Executed Buildings of Frank Lloyd Wright] (Berlin: Ernst Wasmuth, 1910), first edition, 30 plates housed in a large brown quad-fold portfolio with cloth hinges and black lettering on the front cover, elephant folio (16.25" x 25.5"). This set of 30 architectural plates represents a random, but solid portion of the original 72 plate-set released in Germany in 1910, which is extremely difficult to find as a complete set in present times. Each plate, printed on thick card stock, is embossed with Frank Lloyd Wright's early trademark: a stamp with his name next to two embossed squares. The set also includes the original tissue overlays attached to 10 of the plates and one tissue overlay only for Plate 58. The large plates included here cover a wide variety of Frank Lloyd Wright's early career, with beautiful representations of the City National Bank in Mason City, Iowa; the dwelling of D. D. Martin in Buffalo, New York; the F. W. Little residence in Peoria, Illinois; a study for a concrete bank building in a small city; the Administration Building for the Larkin Company; a typical house plan to be incorporated into the "Quadruple Block Plan"; a perspective and ground plan for the Isadore Heller residence in Chicago; a suburban dwelling for George Millard in Highland Park, Illinois; a perspective for a dwelling for Victor Metzger in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and many, many more. The plates are printed in a variety of ink colors. Also included here is the original 31-page German introduction to the collection, and the exceedingly rare original English translation of said intro. The English translation is rare because most sets which included it were destroyed in a fire at Wright's famous Taliesin studio. The plates are overall in very gooAuction Info
