Description

Cornwallis' Personal Copy of Philosophical Dissertations, with Proper Reflections by Benjamin Parker (London: Homer's Head, 1743), third edition (stated), 64 pages, bound in full calf with gilt raised bands, 8vo (5.5" x 9.25"). Inside this book is a small bookplate measuring 2.25" x 2.75" that depicts the Cornwallis family crest and motto "Per Ardua Stabilis" and the words "Earl Cornwallis." With no date to go on, we can only assume it belonged to one of the five Earls of Cornwallis, one of whom is the famous General Cornwallis who fought against the American colonists in their bid for independence. The book is in very good condition; corners are slightly bumped; spine has begun to slightly separate; otherwise excellent!
