[First Day Covers]. Group of Five Assorted. 1973. Fine. A first day cover is a stamped envelope or card which was cancelled by the post office on the first day where the postage stamp was issued and has a cancellation mark indicating same. The cancellation is often specific to the occasion and frequently states "First Day of Issue" or similar. Each FDC includes commemorative artwork or cachets that are highly sought after by collectors.
