1802 Edition of The Federalist

[Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay]. The Federalist, on the New Constitution. By Publius. Written in 1788. To Which is Added, Pacificus, of the Proclamation of Neutrality. Written in 1793. Likewise, The Federal Constitution, with all the Amendments. New York: George F. Hopkins, 1802.

Revised and corrected edition. Two octavo volumes. [4], [i]-viii, [318], with two pages numbered 167 and two pages numbered 168, as noted on errata page; [4], [i]-v, [3], 351, [3] pages.

Contemporary full calf with single ruled boards in blind. Backstrip has leather spine labels (Volume II's is lacking) with gilt title and blind ruled compartments. Bindings are rubbed and scuffed with cracked joints and front boards detached from both volumes. Front free endpaper of both volumes is detached. Upper portion of blank second leaf in both volumes has been torn off. Offsetting and foxing to endpapers. Pages are lightly toned throughout with some scattered foxing. The set is in good condition and an excellent candidate for restoration.

This edition was the last issued during Hamilton's lifetime.
