More Information:

Frans Cornelius Donders (1818-89), a native of Tilburg, Holland, began his career as an army surgeon but from 1862 on he concentrated upon physiology and ophthalmology. He was a prolific author who published mainly in Dutch, although his more important works have appeared in English, French and German translations and include a volume on the physiology of stuttering.  The work offered here is considered to be his greatest.  "This work is of the highest importance in the field of physiological optics.  It contains Donders' explanation of astigmatism, his definitions of aphakia and hypermetropia, his sharp distinctions between myopia and hypermetropia, etc.," - Morton, p.802.
