Description
Oliver Wendell Holmes. Autograph letter signed. Three pages of a bifolium, 4 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches, [Boston]; 1865. In this letter to an unnamed recipient, Holmes discusses a lecture his correspondent gave regarding changes in education. In part:"Many thanks for the copies of your address which you have had the kindness to lend me. I have read it again with renewed pleasure and it has stimulated me to read Mr. Atkinsons lecture also. The question so opportunely brought before the new educational institution is one that interests me more than I anticipated. You have struck, as you always do, just at the right moment, and though there will be a battle before the old prejudices give way, there can be no doubt of the issue. It will not be long, I think, before the remodelled schools and colleges will begin to react, as the political system does, on the institutions of the old world... you have spoken the right word at the proper time about education and children." Signed, "O. W. Holmes."
Condition: Smoothed folds. Pinhole at the left edge near the top, not touching text.
