8vo (224 x 136 mm). Original blue-gray wrappers, uncut; cloth slipcase.

FIRST EDITION of this posthumous collection. According to Strahan's Preface: "That the authenticity of this Work may never be called in question, the original manuscript will be deposited in the library of Pembroke College in Oxford. Dr. Bray's associates are to receive the profits of the First Edition, by the Author's appointment; and any further advantages that accrue, will be distributed among his relations." VERY RARE IN ORIGINAL WRAPPERS UNCUT.

Condition: Wrappers stained and worn at edges; backstrip largely perished. Some pale marginal dampstaining; short marginal wormtrack at gutter margins through quire A and the beginning of B; some early notes on the last two pages transcribing Johnson's last prayer that appears on p. 216.
