Robert Browning. Bells and Pomegranates. Parts I-VIII. London: Edward Moxon, 1841-46.8 parts [complete], 8vo (235 x 153 mm). Half-title in Part II (all issued). Original printed wrappers; quarter morocco slipcase.
FIRST EDITION IN THE ORIGINAL PARTS, IN THE VERY RARE PRINTED WRAPPERS. PRESENTATION COPIES OF PARTS IV, VI and VII, INSCRIBED BY BROWNING TO HIS UNCLE REUBEN BROWNING, on their front wrappers: "Reuben Browning Esq. / with RB's affectionate / regards," "Reuben Browning Esq. / with RB's most affec- / tionate regards," and "Reuben Browning Esq. / with RB's most affect- / tionate regards," respectively.
Comprising:

2. King Victor and King Charles.
3. Dramatic Lyrics [including "The Pied Piper of Hamelin"].
4. The Return of the Druses.
5. A Blot in the 'Scutcheon'.
6. Colombe's Holiday.
7. Dramatic Romances and Lyrics.
8. Luria; and A Soul's Tragedy.
Browning's most important work, with the rare fifth part and the half-title for the second part (the only one issued). This collection contains many of Browning's most celebrated poems, including the "Pied Piper of Hamelin". This set includes the rare First Edition of Part V, which is usually lacking or supplied from the second edition. Sets seldom have more than two presentation numbers. The Buxton Forman-Pforzheimer copy had three presentation numbers but not all to the same recipient.
Condition: Some wear to spines with minor chipping and splitting; Part VIII with spine tape-repaired, a split along rear joint and torn on rear wrapper; some soiling, toning and minor edgewear to all parts.
