Description
Nathaniel Hawthorne. The House of Seven Gables, a Romance. Boston, Ticknor, Reed, and Fields, 1851.8vo. With 4 pp. publisher's advertisements at front. Original blindstamped brown cloth, gilt-lettered on spine; quarter morocco slipcase.
THE VERY FINE PARSONS COPY OF THE WORK HAWTHORNE CONSIDERED HIS MASTERPIECE.
FIRST EDITION, with publisher's catalogue dated March 1851 at front (BAL's Printing A, no priority), without a comma after "solitude" on p. 343, line 31. Binding apparently BAL's binding B.
Condition: Slightest rubbing to spine ends and extremities. Light bump to upper corners of text block in the latter half; vertical marginal abrasion on outer margin of p. 149 and some minor chips to upper corners on two leaves (pp. 147/148 and pp. 149/150), else very fine.
