First U. S. edition, first printing. Octavo. xvi, [17]-[275], [1,
blank], [4, ad] pages. Original blue cloth blocked and lettered in
black and gilt. Frontispiece, intertextual illustrations. Front
hinge strengthened. Lacking one of the three preliminary blanks.
Some extremity wear with minor loss to cloth on spine ends,
moderate rubbing on boards, spine and outer margins of boards
darkened, front hinge somewhat over-opened, light toning,
occasional soiling. Bookseller's label of "C. Beach... San
Francisco" on front pastedown. Very good. BAL 3369
