First edition, first state, intermediate B (tail-piece removed, caption "The St. Louis Hotel"), the rare Webster issue. Octavo. 624 pages. With more than 300 in-text illustrations. Publisher's original brown cloth binding, front board and spine stamped in black and gilt. Green floral endpapers, all edges trimmed.

Condition: Minor wear and scuffing to boards, corners just rubbed, head and tail of spine pushed, other minor edgewear. Bookplate to front pastedown. Internally clean and tight, scattered, minor foxing. Near fine.
